Hi,
I've had my Multiac fretless for about 18 months now and I've learned a bit from the experience, but haven't played it as much as I'd like. I find the buzz of the sound to be interesting sometimes but mostly annoying. I've used both the nylon strings it came with and the Tomastik KR116 strings.
I don't like the idea of using amplification and effects to overcome the sound because I find the acoustic sound too strong and distracting.
Anyway, I found that I could use a slide or better yet the Peaceland Guitar Rings that are mini-slides for each finger, and they could be used hovering or I can just push all the way to the fingerboard, either way that actually sounds great.
So I'm happy with the tone of the slide on the strings, but I wish I had the control of just using fingers. I'm guessing at this point that no possible fingerboard material or electric or acoustic instrument will have similar sustain to using a metal slide, is that wrong? Because I'd really like having an acoustic instrument, banjo or guitar or whatever that had that sort of clean, clear sound and sustain, perhaps with a metal or glass fingerboard?
Or, maybe I really should just get a guitar with a really high action and just use the Peaceland Rings and be a slide guitarist.
I wish my fingertips could just be made of heavy steel.
The Multiac with the slide rings sounds good enough, but I have the sense it isn't the best combination and I could sell it and someone who wants it for use with it's electric capabilities etc. would appreciate it more than I... also, for a really wonderful acoustic sound I expect I'd be better off with some other instrument with better acoustic resonance. Or if I want to really play with electric effects and stuff, then I'll be better off with a dedicated electric guitar, mostly because the acoustic sounds will be easier to mask.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can get a lttle buzz on the Multiac, if you lift the neck a little it should dissappear.
The peacerings look good, might try some, have you thought about getting a resonator? Ned Evett had a glass neck put on his, sounded really good.
Alternatively the Vigier Surfretter is worth a spin... if you can find one!

Play the blues guitar with your soul, but play the fretless guitar with your spirit.
